Happy New Year! A special treat for the ladies of CCDL...new CCDL "Bling". We found a vendor to create our logo in sparkling rhinestones. The rhinestone logo heat transfer sheets will cost you $10, and can be applied with a household iron to your choice of fabric, or take it to a shop that has a heat press (call one close to you for availability and price).
Apply to a pink Tshirt, purple sweatshirt, or black tank...the choice is yours! We only ordered a few, so get yours on Tuesday at our general meeting! Shown here applied to a grey sweatshirt (but you must see in person to truly appreciate the sparkle!):

We are pleased to once again host this event. It will be timed for the election cycle to offer a platform for pro 2A candidates. Suitability Study/Permit Issues CCDL Member E. Jonathan Hardy is heading up a state wide Suitability Study regarding permit issues in every town of CT. Many local issuing authorities are asking for additional information that is not required per the State of Connecticut to obtain your permit. We've seen some local issuing authorities, go so far as to ask for, skin color, handicap information, medical information, dental information, credit data, three letters of reference, etc. All of this is NOT required per the State and is just a barrier for those that want to maintain a certain amount of privacy and still obtain a permit. HR 822 Update: This bill recently passed the US House of Representatives. CCDL has been following this closely. HR 822, while expanding the Right to Carry for those with Permits, has faced much scrutiny due to the possibility that the Federal Government may regulate this Reciprocity through bad amendments. Claims have also been made about the Constitutionality of the bill by a number of different Constitutional Think Tanks as well. Based on these considerations, the CCDL Executive Committee held no official position on 822. However the passage by the House should be considered somewhat of a victory for gun owners up to this point. Now we wait for the Senate. If you are in favor of 822 and wish to support it, you can contact both of your Connecticut Senators from our links page here: http://ccdl.us/links
How Connecticut Reps Voted: Joe Courtney (2nd District) was the only Connecticut US Rep that voted in favor of this Bill. The other four Connecticut Reps opposed 822. Even though CCDL has not taken an official stance on this Bill, we do certainly want to acknowledge Joe Courtney for having the courage to vote for this Bill. If you are from the 2nd District, and wish to thank him for his vote, you may contact Joe here: http://courtney.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=148 (Email is regulated by a zip code qualifier for only those within the 2nd District)

66 Year Old New London City Ordinance Banning Concealed Carry is Being Addressed Only two cities currently have ordinances banning the concealed carry of weapons. One is New Britain, the other just so happens to be in the city that CCDL President Scott Wilson lives in. After working through public access television to raise the issue, Scott has been able to get the matter into to Public Safety Committee for review. We are hopeful that this will be a specific agenda item for the City Council in the near future. We remind our members that live or travel into New London that permitted carriers of firearms still have the option to Open Carry if they choose to go this route. While some city ordinances are technical nuisances, CCDL takes them seriously when it comes to firearms. We know gun owners make every attempt to comply with the law, and also work to change those laws that infringe on our rights.

Campaign Watch (2012): At our next meeting we have candidates for US Congress 5th District: Mark Greenberg along with US Congress 2nd District: Dan Reale. Both candidates will share 2nd Amendment views, as well as talk about the elections next year. As an activist organization, we feel it is important for our members help out with the campaigns of their favorite 2A candidate. Last month, US Senate candidate Brian K Hill joined us and offered a very informative Q&A session. Video from his presentation is available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKprj348QtQ You can also visit Brian’s Website: http://briankhill.com/ If you know of any pro-2A candidates seeking election in 2012, please have them contact

Killingly Town Ordinance Watch Update: Thanks to the efforts of the residents of Killingly and the wisdom of the Town Council, the ordinance proposal to ban firearms from being discharged on private property has been withdrawn. The efforts of CCDL to bring the ordinance proposal to the attention of the media and to present the side of gun owners played a valuable role, which included having one of our members interviewed and profiled by the Norwich Bulletin. Their coverage of this matter was fair and balanced. Our thanks goes out to Gerald Hopkins!

Wrap up of 3rd annual CCDL Family Picnic
On August 27th we had a great time with a better than expected turnout considering many came from across the State with Hurricane Irene nipping at our heels, and the prospect for rain was nearly a given. The Executive Board would like to thank Cheryl Lemos for her hard work planning this event. And a great thank you is also given to all of the other members that helped cook, clean, set up and brought things to make the day an overall success. Pics are available in our gallery for viewing: http://ccdl.us/photo-gallery/category/16-3rd-annual-family-picnic

Killingly Town Ordinance Watch Update: Scheduled Meeting:
There is a scheduled meeting to discuss a proposal of a firearms ordinance this Thursday at the Town Managers' Conference room at the Killingly Town hall 172 Main St. Danielson, CT. This meeting is open to the Public, however it is not a public hearing. We still are encouraging Killingly residents to contact Town Hall and attend this meeting if possible.
Killingly CCDL Members and all gun owners should prepare for the likelihood of a public hearing in the very near future for a gun ordinance. This ordinance proposal has language that may restrict use of firearms on private property. There may possibly be no provision for use of firearms for self defense purposes. While no public hearing is scheduled as of yet, both the town council and Public Safety committees are working on language for this proposal.
CCDL is recommending that interested parties view the Public Hearing page for Killingly:http://www.killingly.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={CC060358-84C5-46D8-AC81-64412AED1C81}&DE={708752AF-F3C5-4655-99AC-E4CD144B09D1} You may also inquire at the Town Manager’s office: 860-779-5334. As always, be polite when making inquiries.
When and if this Public Hearing is scheduled, CCDL will do it’s best to alert members as soon as possible.
